Case-Making 101: Part 4, Honoring A Few of the Experts in Christian Apologetics

Apologetics and the Bible

Over the past few weeks I have been hi-lighting some of the experts in the field of Christian Apologetics and I know that I can not possibly cover all of the people doing this kind of needed work for the LORD. However, I want to make sure that I include the ones that have greatly influenced my walk and ministry over the past few years. I encourage you to begin to follow some of the work done by these disciples of Christ so that you too can become a bold and confident defender of the faith and let them help you answer the question:

Do you own your faith,

know what you believe and why you believe it?

This week I am focusing on the ministries of J. Warner Wallace, Homicide Cold Case Detective who I consider to be one of my mentors in Christian Apologetics; Greg Koukl, founder and president of “Stand to Reason” Ministries; and Dr. Frank Turek, co-author with Norman Geisler on one of the most important Christian Apologetics’ books: I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be An Atheist.”

1. J. Warner Wallace has been one of the most influential Christian Apologists in my life. His journey from atheism to Christianity is amazing, using his skills as a detective to come to the undeniable conclusion that God exists; that Jesus proved who he claimed to be and then rose from the dead; and the Bible is the inspired and reliable Word of God. He encouraged me to begin this website to share these truths and I continue to get that encouragement as I begin a third year of Christian Apologetics’ blogging.

A little more about Wallace from his website, Cold Case Christianity:

“J. Warner Wallace is a cold-case homicide detective, popular national speaker and author. He continues to consult on cold-case investigations while serving as an adjunct professor of apologetics at Biola University and as a faculty member at Summit Ministries. J. Warner was a conscientious and vocal atheist until the age of thirty-five, when he took a serious and expansive look at the evidence for the Christian Worldview and determined that Christianity was demonstrably true. He eventually earned a Master’s Degree in Theological Studies from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.”

“J. Warner’s professional investigative work has received national recognition; his cases have been featured more than any other detective on NBC’s Dateline, and his work has also appeared on CourtTV and Fox News. He also appears on television as an investigative consultant and had a role in God’s Not Dead 2, making the case for the historicity of Jesus.”

“J. Warner’s book, Cold-Case Christianity, provides readers with ten principles of cold case investigations and utilizes these principles to examine the reliability of the gospel eyewitness accounts. In God’s Crime Scene, he investigates eight pieces of evidence in the universe to make the case for God’s existence.”

Watch J. Warner Wallace’s 47 minute presentation on evidence for the reliability of the Bible.

2. Greg Koukl: Christian Apologist, radio talk show host, author, speaker, and the co-founder (along with Executive Director, Melinda Penner) of the Christian Apologetics Organization “Stand To Reason.” Greg is a clear thinking Christian who takes the central theme that “Christianity can compete in the marketplace of ideas when it’s properly understood and properly articulated.” Greg has changed the way I think through tough questions and in his book “Tactics” he gives a focused path for presenting the Gospel to our culture today and in a variety of situations.

From Greg’s bio: “Greg’s teaching has been featured on Focus on the Family radio, he’s been interviewed for CBN and the BBC, he’s debated atheist Michael Shermer on Hugh Hewitt’s national radio show, and did a one-hour national television debate with Deepak Chopra on Lee Strobel’s “Faith Under Fire.” Greg has been quoted in U.S. News & World Report and the L.A. Times. An award-winning writer, Greg has written or contributed to 14 books, including Tactics—A Game Plan for Discussing Your Christian Convictions, Relativism: Feet Firmly Planted in Mid-Air with Francis J. Beckwith, and Precious Unborn Human Persons. Greg has published nearly 200 articles and has spoken on 70 college and university campuses both in the U.S. and abroad.”

“Greg received his Masters in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics at Talbot School of Theology, graduating with high honors, and his Masters in Christian Apologetics with honors from Simon Greenleaf University. He is an adjunct professor in Christian apologetics at Biola University. He’s hosted his own radio talk show for over 25 years advocating clear-thinking Christianity and defending the Christian worldview.”

Watch Greg Koukl in this 1 hour presentation give clear thinking answers to bad arguments against Christianity:

3. Dr. Frank Turek: I became a fan of Dr. Turek’s when I read the book that we now use in our Christian Apologetics’ class, “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be An Atheist. Dr. Turek co-wrote this book with Norman Geisler and it should be in every Christians’ library. Dr. Turek is a tough, no nonsense Apologist who has taken on the toughest questions from atheists and others who deny the truths of the Christian faith.

From Dr. Turek’s bio: “A former aviator in the US Navy, Dr. Turek has a master’s degree from the George Washington University and a doctorate from Southern Evangelical Seminary. He is a dynamic speaker and award-winning author or coauthor of four books: Stealing from God:  Why Atheists Need God to make their Case, I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist, Correct, Not Politically Correct and Legislating Morality. As the President of CrossExamined.org, Frank presents powerful and entertaining evidence for Christianity at churches, high schools and at secular college campuses that often begin hostile to his message. He has also debated several prominent atheists including Christopher Hitchens and David Silverman, president of American Atheists.”

“Dr. Turek hosts an hour-long TV program each week called I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist that is broadcast Wednesday nights on DirecTV Channel 378 (the NRB Network). His radio program called CrossExamined with Frank Turek airs on 186 stations every Saturday morning at 10 a.m. eastern and is available continuously on the free CrossExamined App.”

Watch Dr. Turek’s 27 minute presentation that will give you some important tools for answering questions about the faith:

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.  2 Corinthians 5:20

You will not find this material in the public school curriculum even though it is based on solid evidence and grounded in research. It is ironic that following the evidence to where it leads stops at the door of our public schools as they will not let a “Divine footprint” in!  Join us as we examine evidence for Christianity and learn how to become a thoughtful defender and ambassador of your faith.

  1. Loved this list, most of them I have heard of but a few were new to me; Mary Jo Sharp, Alycia Wood among them. Have you heard of Natasha Crain? She wrote a book called Keeping Your Kids on God’s Side.

    • Thanks Stacey,
I would love to hi-light Natasha Crain but I had trouble finding any video clips on her. We need more women out there contenting for the faith!
