A Case for the Bible, The Bible Fast Forward: Session Three, Resources for Genesis 1-11

For this week’s class we will pause and take a look at some of the resources that are available for Christians to go to in order to help answer some of those “difficult” science questions that the culture will ask of us (and we may be asking ourselves). Since we are doing a survey of the Bible, we started with the book of Genesis, which is the most attacked book by secular academia, especially Genesis 1 through 11.

In particular, Genesis 1-3 answers some of life’s biggest question: Origin (the problem of evolution) – where did we come from? Purpose (the problem of identity) – who am I, what am I supposed to do, and what about marriage? Destiny (the problem of evil) – what is wrong with the world, where am I going, and what happens after I die? All of this is addressed in Genesis, and unfolds throughout the rest of the Biblical narrative!

Today we fail to look to God and His Word to help with our struggles and questions, yet there are timeless truths here. Science has become the secular god of today, yet science should be neutral in order to follow the evidence wherever it leads.

The original pursuit of science was to know God and His Creation, and that was the goal of most early scientists (just like a kid asking “how did you do that Dad? Let me try). This was the original goal of all the universities as seen in their mottos and mission statements. Harvard’s motto: “Truth (Veritas) for Christ (Christo) and the Church (Ecclesiae),” was adopted in 1692 and was a part of their original seal (in Latin). But over the last century or so, all the God centered universities have become secular and atheistic at core.

However, many of the biggest minds in places like Oxford, Stanford, USC, Yale and other Ivy League schools have left secular science and their ideologies and are now working in the field of creation science (ICR, AIG, CMI, Discovery Institute, etc.) These are experts now working in the creation science fields of cosmology, biology, geology, archeology and more. The truth begins with a foundation built on God and His Word, and it is all grounded in Genesis.

For this week’s class I am recommending you check out some of the selected videos below, and if you are so inclined, become a subscriber of their work via their websites or YouTube channels. You will be surprised at how the evidence we see all around us for a Creator, is the same evidence viewed by both secular and creation scientists. It is simply the interpretation of that evidence that is in question.

  • Creation Ministries International (creation.com) has a variety of resources and teachings that will help answer many of “those” tough questions the culture asks about Genesis:

Check out this short introductory video for Creation Ministries International that shows the topics and issues they cover on a regular basis:

One more from CMI that addresses one of the most popular questions: What about the dinosaurs?

  • “Is Genesis History” (isgenesishistory.com) is a series of on site documentaries and classroom lectures that focus on things like evidence for the Biblical Flood, and the historicity of the book of Genesis.

The following is an excerpt from the “Is Genesis History” documentary on the topic of a historical, literal Genesis interpretation, and the evidence therein:

Here is one more from “Is Genesis History” that focuses on the evidence from the fossil record and the rock layers in places like the Grand Canyon:

  • Creation Today (creationtoday.org) is one of my favorites, with weekly interviews of top experts and scholars in the various field of creation science. I was blessed to have gone on the Grand Canyon tour with Russ Miller, who leads these types of tours from a Christian Biblical Worldview, and below is a short interview with Russ concerning those trips.

There are so many great resources and groups available and here is a list of my favorite go to websites and YouTube resources on creation topics:

You will not find this material in the public school curriculum even though it is based on solid evidence and grounded in research. It is ironic that following the evidence to where it leads stops at the door of our public schools as they will not let a “Divine footprint” in!  Join us as we examine evidence for Christianity and learn how to become a thoughtful defender and ambassador of your faith.
